Physical Education at Aveley Primary School
Physical Education is a vital part of a child’s development, supporting their physical, social and emotional growth. Research shows that experiences in PE during the early years can have a lasting impact — positively or negatively — on a child’s future health, wellbeing and attitude towards physical activity. When children feel successful, included and confident in movement, they are more likely to stay active throughout their lives.
At Aveley Primary School, we are committed to providing a high-quality, inclusive and engaging Physical Education program. We create a supportive environment where all students are encouraged to participate, challenge themselves and celebrate personal improvement. Lessons are designed to cater to a wide range of abilities, ensuring every child experiences success while continuing to develop new skills and confidence.
Through explicit teaching of fundamental movement skills, game sense, teamwork and strategy, students gain not only physical competence but also important personal and social capabilities. We place a strong emphasis on effort, persistence and positive sportsmanship, helping students understand that growth comes through practice, resilience and determination.
Our aim is to inspire enjoyment of physical activity and foster a lifelong appreciation for movement. At Aveley Primary School, Physical Education is more than just sport — it is an opportunity for every child to grow as a confident, capable and active learner.
Senior Sport
Senior Sport is an exciting and valued part of school life for our Year 4–6 students. It provides opportunities for students to further develop their sporting skills, teamwork and understanding of game play within a structured and increasingly competitive environment. Building on the foundations established in Physical Education, our Senior Sport program emphasises participation, skill development, tactical awareness, leadership and positive sportsmanship.
Through regular training and game play, students learn to apply strategies, communicate effectively as a team, and demonstrate resilience in both success and challenge. Senior students may also have the opportunity to represent our school in interschool competitions within our local network. These experiences foster school pride, commitment and respectful competition, while encouraging students to strive for both personal and team success.
Participation in Senior Sport also helps students build friendships and prepare for the expectations of secondary school sport

Running Club
We are excited to launch our new weekly running club in Term 2 of 2026 — Run Around Australia!
This club is designed to inspire students to build their fitness, resilience and enjoyment of physical activity in a fun and motivating way. Each week, students will run laps around our school oval, with every lap contributing to our collective journey across Australia. The total distance covered by all participants will be tracked on a map, allowing us to virtually “travel” from landmark to landmark and state to state. Along the way, students will learn about different Australian cities, landscapes and iconic locations, making this not only a fitness challenge but also an engaging learning adventure.
Run Around Australia promotes:
- Regular physical activity and healthy habits
- Goal setting and perseverance
- Teamwork and whole-school participation
- Personal achievement and collective success
Whether students choose to jog, run or walk, every lap counts. Together, we will challenge ourselves, celebrate milestones, and see just how far our school community can go. Parents and family members are also warmly invited to join in the fun and be part of the adventure!
